“Bonfires for Peace in Manila” (A Cultural Event for Peace)
Performers: Maryjane Alejo, Anak ni Aling Juana, Joey Ayala, Bobby Balingit, Johnoy Danao, Datu’s Tribe, Khavn Dela Cruz, Boni Ilagan, Marili Fernandez-Ilagan, Kilometer 64, Mae Paner (aka Juana Change), Axel Pinpin, Rannie Raymundo, Rockshox, Jess Santiago, and Tag-Ani Performing Arts Society. Proceeds go to DESAPARECIDOS, a Philippine-based coalition of family members of victims of enforced disappearances, and The Jonas Burgos Movement.

Garden party, with poets, singer-songwriters, food (and games, filmshows etc) as part of Wander’s July launch, “Under a Peaceful Blue Sky.” Donations (equal food and great evening), but no one will be turned away—as long as he/she comes in with a smile. Some more details TBA. At Lisa Engelbrecht’s residence in Long Beach, California.

AUGUST:

A first of Saturday Vagrant Wind show, features the return of Nomads of 4th Street (Daniel Romo and Pasckie Pascua), and Wander Women and Traveling Bonfires performers.

“Bonfires for Peace in San Francisco.” Part of the summer-long TBonfires’ centerpiece program. Proceeds go to a Manila-based nonprofit. Performers, TBA.

*Bonfires for Peace is the Traveling Bonfires’ centerpiece community project. From 2001 to 2006, the organization produced morning to nighttime concerts and similar “Vagrant Wind” events in Asheville NC—as well as in Baltimore, Washington DC, New York City, and other North Carolina towns/cities—and gathered performers/musicians/artists and peace-loving spirits from all over the US, with visitors from Haiti, the Philippines, France, Japan. A first “Bonfires for Peace” in California/West Coast was held at Huntington Beach in Oct 2008.

[a] A “global peace/multicultural community connectedness” poetry reading and filmshow at Shades of Afrika in Long Beach in July but details TBA later.
[b] A Gig 2 of Wander Women Series is up for July, TBA.
[c] A “Bonfires for Peace” club gig in July is also upcoming in New York City this summer, details TBA.
