ACTION. “Brothers Under Fire.” / “Normal.” / “Agent Zero.” / “Killerman.”

“Brothers Under Fire” (2026, Hulu) action film. A decorated U.S. Army Captain and his military squadron travel to Mexico for a comrade's wedding. When a ruthless local cartel violently interrupts the celebration and kills a groom, the joyous trip turns into a brutal fight for survival. Stars Kiefer Sutherland.

The action sequences are alright and neatly-executed but not the sort that'd stick in your memory. Yet there's nothing in this by-the-motions cartel cliche that is fresh or new. Mr Sutherland's talent goes through a day-job gig. Get paid, done. That's all. 🎥💻📽

“Normal” (2025, HBO Max) action thriller. The story—set in the fictitious, titular town of Normal, Minnesota—follows a newly-arrived interim sheriff who investigates a town-wide conspiracy after a botched bank robbery.

The premise is ridiculously cartoonish or wildly whacked but no matter. This movie revels on Bob Odenkirk's morose-looking coolness (ha!) and mischievous action. Like the “Nobody” movies, this one isn't normal stuff but replete with entertaining thrills. 🎥💻📽

“Agent Zero” (2025, Amazon Prime) French action-thriller. A former elite secret agent must resurrect her deadly skills in Morocco after her husband is targeted and put into a coma.

First I was disappointed that Prime, Tubi and Plex didn't show the original French-language version. What they had is the English overdub, which takes out pertinent nuance of the entire proceedings.

Anyhow, nothing so biggie about the conspiracy angle or the political back-story of the movie but the action sequences are remarkably staged. Fast-paced and concise that somehow diverted us from the storyline's predictability.

Meanwhile, the physically committed performance of Marine Vacth, as a former elite French intelligence operative, is a sight to see. 🎥💻📽

“Killerman” (2019, Paramount+) action-crime. A New York City money launderer wakes up with amnesia and millions in stolen cash and drugs. Stars Liam Hemsworth.

This grim action thriller, anchored on Liam Hemsworth and Emory Cohen's powerful performance, has nerve-wracking potential. Add the wicked defiance of Zlatko Buric as the super bad boss dude Perico. But as we near the end game, everything settled for a “safe landing” in cliche-land. Still, this movie is worth your while. 🎥💻📽
